We are all familiar with the circumstances of Jesus' birth as described in the second chapters of Mathew and Luke's recording of the Gospel, both of which come into focus particularly at Christmas. Mathew describes how the wise men from the east follow a portentous star and presumably after a very long journey, the star leads them to the exact spot in Bethlehem where the new born Heavenly babe lay in a makeshift cradle - a feeding trough.
Similarly, Luke describes how angels revealed themselves to the shepherds who were out in the fields surrounding Bethlehem and announced the birth of Christ pointing out where He could be found.
Isn't it interesting that both the star and the angels pointed man to a PERSON. Not to a doctrine, denomination, congregation, truth or a "thing" but to The Truth, The Person of Jesus Christ. And still today, the Holy Spirit is intent on revealing Christ (Jn.14) to the earnest seeker and yet, isn't it sad that so much of Christendom points people to and focuses on "Things" instead.
